A brief history of the
Bermuda Kennel Club.

The Bermuda Kennel Club (BKC) was formed in May of 1955, following the Canadian Kennel Club’s (CKC) agreement to register Bermuda owned and Bermuda bred pure–bred dogs.

Obedience Training Classes were started later that year.

The first Championship Conformation Show was held in the spring of 1956 under CKC rules, as were all the shows until 1966.

In April of 1964 the BKC became an “Incorporated Body” under Bermuda Law.

Encouraged by the CKC, the BKC adopted its own Dog Show Rules and Obedience Trial Regulations in 1967, and in 1968 the BKC set up its own Registration Records.

In 1990 BKC delegates attended the 6th World Congress of Kennel Clubs, and in 1991 the AKC recognized the Bermuda Registry.

In 1992 Bermuda and the BKC proudly hosted the 7th World Congress of Kennel Clubs.

In 2010 the show giving club. The Bermuda All Breed Club, dissolved and the BKC formed a “Show Committee” to continue the now annual Bermuda International Championship All Breed Dog Shows.

in 2011, the 2009 & 2010 top Bermuda show dogs were invited to compete in the 2011 AKC/Eukanuba National Championship.  https://www.akc.org/invitational/2011/bermuda.cfm

The four 2011 BKC All Breed International Championship Dog Shows were QUALIFYING SHOWS for CRUFTS 2012. Since that time, the BKC Show Committee continued to apply each year for and the shows have been successfully nominated as qualifiers for the following year Crufts. The qualifying dogs from each of the four shows will be the winners of the following: All Group Winners, Best Puppy in Show and Best Veteran in Show.

After 7 years of managing successfull annual dog shows the BKC Show Committee was disbanded in 2016 to encourage the dog show community to create a new show giving club. The Devil’s Isle All Breed Club was formed in early 2017.

The Dog Training Club of Bermuda is also affiliated with the BKC and runs Obedience and Agility Trials under BKC Regulations.
